The Great British

The Story

In working on the brand identity for new restaurant concept, the Great British, we were tasked with marrying the authenticity of a traditional fish and chip restaurant whilst injecting a touch of contemporary styling.

We took inspiration from historical fishmonger sign painting and coupled this with a beautifully, hand-illustrated cod to create the logo. The illustrations commissioned from Ben Rothery were used in conjunction with materials such as Kraft for chip boxes and branded wax paper represent the traditional element.

A contemporary feel is present in the clean lines of the menu design and restaurant stationery, whilst the commissioned neon artwork adds a vibrant, splash of fun to the interior.

Since opening, the restaurant has featured in the Michelin guide, holds one AA Rosette and came runner up in the 2016 National Fish and Chip Awards for ‘Best New Location.’ The Great British also won the award for Best Traditional Restaurant in the 2016 Good Food Awards.
